Human Performance Nutrition
Human Performance Nutrition [#HPN] is a higher form of human or sports nutrition, because it fuels for physiological results first. Food does three critical things for the body. Food fuels, builds, and conditions to create energy, matter and function. What distinguishes HPN is its inclusion of eating to physiologically "Condition Function".

The Blind Spot in Sports Nutrition
Traditional sports nutrition is focused on carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Game day nutrition, fueling for sport specific needs (i.e. endurance, body building, etc.) or ideologies (i.e. paleo) consume the narrative. This relegates nutritional impact down to the two traditional pillars, fueling-energy and building-matter. The blind spot in sports nutrition is pillar (3) Conditioning function.
three pillars of HPN:
Fuel Energy: Restore depleted glycogen
Build Matter: Rebuild damaged proteins
Condition Function: Replenish phytochemicals
They are the most prolific, powerful nutrients in food. Tens of thousands exist and give plants their color, taste and mojo. Below is a partial list of the phytonutrients contained in a fresh, whole clean apple.
Phytonutrients condition your physiology like cross fit training for your cellular function. Their impact comes from the great biochemical synergy produced by your body interacting with the tens of thousands phytonutrients found in produce.
The optimal approach usually embodies a simple execution of the fundamentals. The compounding effect of daily training and conditioning elevates performance in sports, academics and art. The same effect occurs in your body through nutritional conditioning. The compounding effect of phytonutrient conditioning elevates your game at takes you from Good to Great nutrition. As an interesting aside, the compounding effect of good food is the 1st Principle in CrossFit.
activate. modulate. protect.
The compounding effect of phytonutrients gives your body a competitive advantage. Here are a few blog posts as an introduction: Maximizing Energy Output: beyond carbs, proteins and fats and Protecting Proteins vs Eating Them.
The inconvenient truth is most athletes can't, don't, or won't eat enough fruits and vegetables everyday.
Here are a few technologies that are put at the service of health food: Canning, freezing, juicing, drying, cut and bagged carrots, etc. Plant powders and produce concentrates are a new standard in health food support.

Welcome to the Game of Life - Eat Well
Food, brings the body to life. Good food makes it work well. Great food makes it perform. Nutrition is only as good as your execution. Better execution moves you towards the right side your your own bell curve. As science catches up to truth, it reaffirms the simple idea that mastering the fundamentals (what works) separates good from great. Athletes are ruthlessly practical and do what works. This is a sneak peek into what works. We look forward to seeing you on the field of play.
